The March 16th deadly massage parlor shootings are a devastating tragedy for the victims, their families and coworkers, for Asian American and Pacific Islanders and for our community at-large. While it is not clear that these women were participating in erotic labor, the assailant made his intentions and beliefs about them explicit. This gratuitous, cowardly act further proves how stigma catalyzes and enables cycles of violence. Vulnerable communities need and deserve support from community members, allies, immigration officials, law enforcement, media and congressional representatives to promote sensible, humane policymaking.
