by | Mar 4, 2019

Sex Worker Rights Organizers and Allies will be hosting a sex worker organizers and allies meet and greet in Austin on March 10th from 6-9 to write letters to incarcerated sex workers and talk about all the work going on throughout the country regarding the full decriminalization of sex work. Our panel discussion with Larry Walters from Woodhull Sexual Freedom Foundation, Dan Savage from The Savage Love Podcast and Alex Andrews from SWOP Behind Bars, moderated by River Roaring from Uncage Love about the progress of the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of SESTA/FOSTA is happening the following day at the SXSW conference. SIgn up to be notified about the exact location of the letter writing event!

Alex Andrews

Alex is a 53 year old sex worker alumni who has lived experience under criminalization of consensual sex work. She is the Co-Founder of SWOP Behind Bars and sits on the Board of Directors of NSWP as the North American Representative. Alex has been working with men, women and trans folks who have been incarcerated and also have experience in the sex industry and works to reduce the shame, discrimination and stigma of sex work by showing up at community meetings and town hall discussions on trafficking and using herself as an example to demonstrate that sex workers are just like everyone else. She has been called a “watchdog” of anti trafficking activity and is committed to the unification of sex worker rights in the United States.

Melissa Sontag Broudo

Melissa is the co Founder and co Executive Director of the Sharmus Outlaw Advocacy and Rights (SOAR) Institute. She has been part of the sex workers’ rights and harm reduction movements for over fifteen years, and co-founded SOAR to further policy, advocacy and capacity building efforts that support the rights of sex workers and survivors of human trafficking. Through her work at SOAR, Ms. Broudo has been featured extensively in the media regarding sex work and #metoo, the NYC Stripper Strike, and criminalization of sex workers. She has also been able to push for policies that further a rights-based approach to the sex industry.

Kaytlin Bailey
Kaytlin’s nothing-to-lose honesty and brazen comedic style is sure to make you laugh – and/or avoid eye contact with your significant other…and mom. Kaytlin started life in the spot light, as an only child! Her ex-hippie-liberal mother, and ex-military-“birther” father gave her a unique and fearless perspective. Kaytlin graduated from the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC where she studied History, Theatre, and why being an only child makes you annoying. After graduation, she ran field campaigns for a progressive political consulting firm, and traveled all over the country. After two years, twelve cities, nine states, working 100 hours a week Kaytlin was strung out on Hope, Change, and Adderall. After the 2010 election cycle she decided to put down the clipboard, and pick up a microphone. In July, 2011 Kaytlin packed up her 1997 VW Cabrio convertible and moved to NYC to begin her comedy career. And that’s where she’s at.
